For our trip we had to pick a new vehicle, our C3 was too small to carry all the stuff we need for one year of travel around France. We have our clothes, stuff for cooking, for sports, for the kids school, for working, taking pictures… We didn’t want a camper van or a trailer, but still be able to sleep the 4 of us when needed for a night or two. We also have our two tandems that travel with us, so we went for a Citroën Jumpy :
- It “feels” a lot like our C3, same gear box, same steering wheel. Doesn’t feel as much as a truck compared to a Renault Trafic, Corinne feels quite comfortable with it.
- It’s a very popular van, used by thousands of plumbers, electricians and building companies in France and Europe. Means that spare parts are cheap and will be available for a while.
- It’s a Citroën, made in France, and despite the same car being available under the Fiat and Peugeot brands, I struggle seeing myself driving those…
So we found a used one with a turbo diesel, not too many miles on the counter, decent MPG around 35 (6.8 l/100 all charged). Made some wooden shelves and a baggage compartment in place of the third line of seats, and now we have a ride!
